Anthony White’s practice is committed to reclaiming the act of dissent through the production of cultural objects. This is fueled primarily through research situated at the intersection of several fields, including politics, human rights, and postcolonialism. Concepts of design and its history as a form of social and political expression inform his approach to painting, drawing, collage, and printmaking. The references and materials he uses mark a predisposition for modernist aesthetics without this ever becoming the subject of his work. Through this practice, he tackles relevant questions to our time, to encourage emancipation and new ways of thinking.

He has exhibited extensively across Australia, Europe, the UK, and Asia. Notable recent exhibitions include “After Eureka: The Studies for Manifestation” at the Eureka Centre in Ballarat and his solo show “Manifestation” at Lennox St Gallery in 2023. Other significant exhibitions include “Mobilising Material” at The Mark Rothko Museum in Latvia (2022), “The Curious Eye Never Runs Dry” at Informality Gallery, UK (2019), “Signs of Civilisation” (2018), and “Crossing the Rubicon” (2016) at Nanda Hobbs Contemporary, Sydney.

White has participated in over 70 group and 20 solo exhibitions internationally and has been featured in major Australian art prizes, including The Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship and The John Glover Art Prize. He has received numerous awards, including The Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship (2007) and the Creative Arts Fellowship at The National Library of Australia (2020). His work has garnered reviews in prominent publications like The Australian Financial Review, Art Collector Magazine and Elle Décor.

His professional development includes international residencies at The Vermont Studio Centre, La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, and the Leipzig International Art Programme. White’s work is held in public and private collections globally, including The Soho House Group in London and The Mark Rothko Museum in Latvia.
