Cristina Troufa is a Portuguese artist who lives and works in Porto, Portugal. Cristina is known for her contemporary self-portraits whereby she creates autobiographical paintings that display the core of her persona and spiritual beliefs. In her paintings she aims to consolidate the idea of a spiritual, emotional, and psychological inner self- portrait. Cristina’s style is distinguishable by carefully surrounding her subjects by a significant amount of negative space. The negative space in her work brings attention to her subjects and allows the figures to come to life. After completing her degree in Fine Arts at Porto’s University of Fine Arts in 1998, Cristina has gone on to exhibit in solo and group shows extensively throughout Portugal and internationally in Italy, Spain, Australia, France, Canada, Denmark, and Taiwan. She is also part of a number of private museum and university collections in Portugal including the University of Porto, Liberty Seguros – City Museum (Espinho) and Archaeology and Ethnography Museum (Setúbal).
