Joel Patry is a artist living in Calgary, AB. Patry is a graduate of the Emily Carr University of Art + Design where he majored in Painting and Film History. Patry’s captivating abstract paintings utilize vibrant colours and bold textures to create speculative and imaginative landscapes. His work possesses a punchy playful energy, created through meticulous line work, masterful colour gradation, and layers of recognizable motifs. Patry blurs and distorts images of trucks, machines, people, and animals, experimenting with scale and proportion, to explore the balance between nature, memory, and relationships. His work has been exhibited extensively in public galleries and private collections across Canada. In 2010, he received the Vancouver General Hospital and University of British Columbia Hospital Foundation Idea Art Award, an award given to an artist whose work connects visual arts to the health care sector, promoting healing and humanizing clinical spaces.
