Zoe Koke is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Koke creates artworks in a variety of mediums including photography, painting, sculpture and film. Koke’s sculptural and photography based works subtly dissect the power dynamics inherent in constructed and natural space. In Koke’s artworks the artist collects images, reconfigures and alters objects and directly replicates natural forms from her everyday. She very recently began to work in clay and bronze to further explore issues of time and the lifeline of materials. Language, health, democracy, collective trauma, and impermanence are prominent subjects in her work. Koke also works in independent film as a costume and production designer. The films she has worked on have screened at the Berlin International film festival, TIFF and Rotterdam. Koke has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Concordia University in Montreal and a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA; she also attended Parsons School of Design in New York City studying Design Management. At UCLA Koke worked closely with mentors and celebrated feminist artists Catherine Opie and Barbara Kruger, who greatly influenced her work. Koke also regularly writes about art and is a long-term contributor to The Editorial Mag. Koke’s work has been extensively exhibited in Canada as well as in Los Angeles, New York, Texas and Melbourne, Australia.
